2016 Recital Auditions

“Through the Looking Glass”

Please arrive 30 minutes early to warm – up and be prepared.

  • Middle School (6th grade – 8th Grade) (no pointe)

                   Audition Time: 5:00pm – 6:00pm

  • Freshman & Sophomores

                   Audition Time: 6:15pm – 7:15pm

  • Juniors & Seniors

                  Audition Time: 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Audition Roles:

Alice (all styles of dance) – “Playful, likes to pretend, sweet, kind”

Red Queen (all styles of dance) “Agile, fast, demanding”

White Queen (Pointe) “A confusing queen, lives backwards, confusing scenes”

Tweedledee & Tweedledum (Modern) “quarreling, sensitive, playful, storytellers, fearful”

Walrus & The Carpenter (Pointe) “manipulative, dismal, tricksters, greedy”

Snowdrop & Kitty (Contemporary) “playful”

Looking Glass Flowers (Pointe) “friendly & pretty”

Humpty Dumpty (Pointe) “not an egg” 🙂

White King (Theater Jazz) “demanding, in charge of Hare & Hatter

Jabberwocky (Modern) “intimidating”

Red Knight (Hip Hop/ Pointe) “tries to steal Alice, b/c she is the White Queen’s Pawn”

White Knight (Hip Hop) “tries to save Alice (Red & White Knight battle each other)

Hare & Hatter (Jazz) “Servants of the White King”

Red King (Hip Hop) Checkmate

Conductor (Hip Hop) Leads a very fast train across Two Chess Squares

Gnat (Hip Hop) “Smart, knows all about every looking glass insect”

Sun & the Moon (Jazz) “Part of the Walrus & Carpenter Scene”

Guidelines to Auditioning for leads in our recital:

  • This will be a competitive audition. We do not have parts for everyone that auditions. We encourage you to audition if you are interested in being casted.

When you come to the appropriate audition:

  1. All styles of dance will happen within your hour audition.
  2. We will begin en pointe (if applicable), move to modern, then jazz & theater, finally Hip Hop.
  3. If you do not wish to be considered for a part during the audition, you are welcome to stand off to the side until your genre of dance begins. All dancers must remain in the audition room for the entire hour. No early dismissals, and tardiness could result in no audition.
  4. You are responsible for warming yourself up for the audition
  5. You can expect short 16 count phrases choreographed by one of our teachers.
  6. Be ready to make a quick impression.
  7. All student’s auditioning will have to fill out an audition form. We will ask you to be specific about your availability during the 2nd semester (Feb. 1, 2017  to June 2017) Start checking your calendars now for graduations, proms, senior trips, family reunions & weddings.
  8. All leads will be double casted. Each cast will perform.
  9. All leads will be charged $100.00 for their costume.
  10. Leads will not perform with their classes during the show they are casted as a lead.
  • High School Students that cannot make it to the audition: Please immediately see your instructor. You must have a form filled out to us before you leave and each teacher will handle this process differently. There will NOT be a make-up audition. All leads will be casted during our Thanksgiving week.

ALL CLASSES WILL PERFORM AND BE PART OF OUR RECITAL. AUDITIONING FOR A LEAD IS EXTRA WORK ON TOP OF YOUR REGULAR DANCE SCHEDULE.
