Andrew began dancing at the University of Mary Washington while studying Theatre & Music (concentration in Voice). While under the instruction of former Alvin Ailey dancer Eugene Roscoe, Andrew transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University to pursue a degree in Dance & Choreography. During his time in Richmond, Andrew has also taught at over a dozen studios on the East Coast reaching as far north as Broadway Dance Center in N.Y.C.
In addition to teaching hip-hop, Andrew's roots lie in modern and contemporary styles. After receiving the Bessie Schonberg scholarship from the American Dance Festival at Duke University, Andrew planned a life of full time dancing and teaching. He eventually became the Associate Artistic Director of an International Dance Company. However, in an interruption to his career, Andrew ended up joining the U.S. Army and served multiple deployments to Iraq as an Infantry Squad Leader. Having recently returned to Richmond with his wife and 3 boys, Andrew is thrilled to be teaching again at WEADance. |
