Julia trained with The Academy of Ballet in Fredricksburg, Va, where she performed in classical roles.

Her training also includes summer studies at the School of the Richmond Ballet, Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Met, Suzanne Farrell and Juilliard.

In 2003, Julia graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Music (ballet performance) and an outside field in Public Affairs.

At Indiana University Ballet Theatre, she had the opportunity to study with and perform under some of some of ballet’s most stellar performers and teachers: Violette Verdy, Leslie Peck, Jacques Cesbron,Glenda Lucena and Julie Kent. Some of her many roles include Nutcracker, Carmina Burana, Les Sylphides, Concerto Barocco, Les Noce and West Side Story.

Ms. Mitchell has enjoyed much teaching success and is devoted to teaching the classical ballet pedagogy and traditions to students of all ages. She loves music and has a strong interest in choreographing and staging ballets, both original and from the classical repertory. Ms. Mitchell has taught ballet and pointe for the West End Academy of Dance since 2006.
