Laurie Nicholson was born in Biloxi, Mississippi. After moving to Richmond, her good friend ”Miss Carrie”, introduced her to jazz classes at The West End Academy of Dance. She rapidly rose to the Advanced level and became a member of the junior dance company, which performed locally as well as in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. She continued taking dance at VCU, including African Dance and Hip Hop, and graduated with a degree in Fashion Design. She has since choreographed for several area dance teams, talent shows, and other local dance studios.
In January of 2007,2008 and 2009, she attended Broadway Dance Center’s, “The Pulse Tour” in Atlanta, GA for their Dance Intensive and Teacher workshops. Some of her Hip Hop instructors included Brian Friedman, Laurie Ann Gibson, Chris Judd, Dave Scott, Wade Robson and Shane Sparks. She has also worked with Darrin Henson from the popular videos, “Darrin’s Dance Grooves”. She currently lives in the West End with her husband, David and their dog, Chloe!
"Miss Laurie" has taught Hip Hop at WEAD for fourteen years! She teaches the beginners all the way to the most advanced. She loves to watch the excitement of her students when they learn a new step and the passion they have to learn more! |
